Contacless CAN Sensor
When should we use the Contactless CAN Sensor J1708?

It should be used on vehicles that have the J1708 network. This old platform is mainly found in older heavy-duty vehicle types of Volvo and Renault.

What is the difference between CL-CAN and CL-J1708?

There are two different communication platforms used in different vehicles. The J1708 network is an old platform mainly found in older heavy-duty vehicle types of Volvo and Renault. You should use CL-CAN sensor in vehicles with standard CAN platform. The CL-J1708 should be used in vehicles with J1708 communication network.

How can you customize the CL-CAN?

Custom cable lengths (standard 1.5m, but can be up to 10m) and custom connection ports (2x2 microfit is standard, but we can provide a solution if you need a different one) are available.

Is the CL-CAN a stand-alone product?

Yes. If you only need warranty-safe CAN data reading, you can use it as a stand-alone product that can be directly connected to your AVL device.

What’s your standard warranty?

Our products come with a warranty of three years. However, many of our first-generation gateways and sensors have been known to work without any problems even after 10 years.

What is the best way to test your product?

Our Contactless CAN Sensor is an easy-to-use product. You can order a single item to test it out.

What is difference between CL-CAN Sensor and FMS Gateway?

The CAN sensor is a contactless data reader that extracts data from the CAN cables and transmits this raw data to the FMS Gateway. The gateway is a data converter that includes firmware specific to a vehicle. It translates the received raw CAN data into an FMS standard format and transmits it to the AVL unit of the telematics company.

Which AVL devices are compatible with the CAN Sensor?

The CAN Sensor can work with any AVL device that has a CAN input.

FMS Gateway
In which vehicles the Inventure FMS Gateway can be installed?

The Inventure FMS Gateway can be installed in all vehicle types (trucks, vans, passenger cars, buses, agricultural, construction vehicles) equipped with a CAN bus or a J1708 network.

How to install Inventure FMS Gateway?

To connect the Contactless CAN Sensor to the Inventure FMS Gateway, plug the output cable of the sensor into the CAN input of the gateway. Then, connect the CAN output cable of the gateway into the AVL device's CAN input. Beforehand, you should configure your AVL device by enabling the CAN Acknowledgement option, which may be displayed as "CAN Normal mode," "CAN Active mode," or "CAN R/W mode." After configuring the device, you should test to see how it identifies the incoming parameters.

Where should I place the FMS Gateway?

Upon purchasing an Inventure FMS Gateway, you will gain access to the specific vehicle firmware and an Installation Guide that contains detailed, step-by-step instructions for installation, supported by many pictures. How to connect Inventure FMS Gateway to in-vehicles communication buses and are there any warranty issues?

Our AVL device does not have a CAN input. Can we still connect the FMS Gateway?

Yes, if your AVL device does not have a CAN input, it is still possible to connect the FMS Gateway via an RS232 port.

The FMS Gateway has been installed in the vehicle, but it does not seem to work. What should I do?

Please follow the below checking rules to ensure everything is okay:

  • Have you downloaded the correct firmware for the specific vehicle?
  • Have you downloaded the Installation Guide?
  • Have you followed the steps outlined in the Installation Guide?
  • Have you checked the FMS Gateway LED status to identify the device's operation status?

If you have followed all of the above steps and the device does not deliver the expected data, please contact us at support@inventure-automotive.com. We will get in touch with you shortly.

Where can I find installation guides?

After purchasing Inventure FMS Gateway, our customers should register on our support page, from where they can download the specific firmware and the installation guide.

Can the FMS GW support analog input?

Yes, it can support. For example, we can provide data for analog fuel level in certain vehicles.

What is the TACHO interface on the FMS GW?

It has a 2x3 connection port for a tachograph. You can connect the tachograph C-CAN and D8. After the tachograph is connected to the gateway, extra tachograph parameters can be accessed.

Can we connect to multiple CAN?

The FMS Gateway Plus has three CAN inputs and one CAN output, including 2 VCAN inputs and a tachograph input. Our gateway is capable of handling two CAN inputs simultaneously.

What’s the difference between ECO and PLUS Gateway?

Our ECO product only has one CAN input. The FMS Gateway Plus has three CAN inputs and one CAN output, including 2 VCAN inputs and a tachograph input. Our gateway is capable of handling two CAN inputs simultaneously. Extra Inventure parameters can only be accessed by Gateway Plus.

What’s your standard warranty?

Our products come with a warranty of three years. However, many of our first-generation gateways and sensors have been known to work without any problems even after 10 years.

What is the best way to test your product?

Our FMS Gateway can be seamlessly tested from your desk with our FMS Data Test Kit.

Database
Where can I find information on which vehicles Inventure supports for CAN to FMS conversion?

Our Support/Supported vehicles page can be accessed without registration to review all supported vehicles. After purchasing Inventure FMS Gateway, our customers can download the firmware and installation guide by registering.

How do you grow your database?

We continuously perform new vehicle measurements and reverse engineering to update our database with more than 400-500 vehicles per year. We prioritize vehicle measurements for the most popular new models and for vehicles requested by our regular partners.

What happens if you don’t support a vehicle?

If the vehicle is not on our supported vehicle list, you must first determine if it is eligible for measurement. Does it have a CAN network? To determine this, we require the vehicle's specifications, such as the VIN plate, model plate, engine code, and vehicle registration document.

If it is eligible, the measurement can be performed in various ways. We can measure the vehicle on a project basis or measure multiple vehicles simultaneously at a reduced cost. Another option is remote measurement, but it is important to note that the success rate of measurements is often lower.
