Expanding our CAN Bus decoding database for heavy machinery

Expanding our CAN Bus decoding database for heavy machinery

Operating heavy machinery is one of the most expensive undertakings across various vehicle categories. Maximizing efficiency is crucial to reducing operational costs and improving productivity. This is where real-time data from vehicles plays a vital role.

We’re excited to announce that our CAN decoding database has expanded to include several new heavy machinery models! With our latest update, which adds more than 130 vehicles to our existing database of over 2,500 supported vehicles, we now include 18 additional heavy machines from manufacturers such as Liebherr, Caterpillar, and Bobcat.

Why Telematics Matters for Heavy Machinery

By extracting critical data from these machines, we enable operators to monitor key performance indicators such as:

  • Fuel consumption
  • Engine runtime
  • Resource utilization
  • Engine speed
  • Engine coolant temperature
  • Fuel rate
  • Ambient temperature

With these insights, businesses can optimize workflows, reduce unnecessary idle time, and achieve significant cost savings.

Understanding INSTALL vs. TOTAL Runtime

One of the key pieces of data we provide is engine runtime, available in two formats:

  • TOTAL: The runtime value directly extracted from the vehicle’s system, continuously increasing as displayed on the dashboard.
  • INSTALL: This starts at 0 from the moment of installation and increases as the vehicle is used.

For example, if a machine has an initial runtime of 100 hours and is used for 10 more hours, the values will be:

  • TOTAL: 100h → 110h
  • INSTALL: 0h → 10h

Overcoming the Challenge of CAN Analysis

Analyzing CAN data from these machines is no easy task, but our expert team has successfully extracted valuable information, helping fleet managers and operators make data-driven decisions.
